Frederick M. ShepherdFrederick M. Shepherd

Frederick M. Shepherd is Chair and Professor in the Department of Political Science at Samford University. He author of the edited volume Christianity and Human Rights: Christians and the Struggle for Global Justice, and has published widely on religion and politics, US foreign policy, Latin American politics, genocide, and human rights. He has been an affiliated scholar with the Holocaust Education Foundation and the US Holocaust Memorial and Museum, and he currently serves as Amnesty International’s Legislative Coordinator for the state of Alabama.

Career highlights include playing an active role in the creation of Alabama’s Forever Wild program, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Dugger Mountain Wilderness, preservation of special places throughout the East through the Wilderness Society and the strengthening (making more stringent) the state of Alabama’s cancer risk and mercury standards.
